Company Assessments

As part of the Coffee Barometer 2026, fifteen of the world’s largest roasters and traders were assessed on three dimensions: transparency, procurement practices, and environmental and climate commitments. The findings informed the analysis and storyline of the full Coffee Barometer 2026 report.

For this Barometer, each company is assessed based on publicly available information: sustainability and annual reports, policy documents, regulatory disclosures, and corporate websites, up to 1 February 2026. The analysis focuses on three areas: (1) transparency; (2) procurement policies; (3) environment and climate. These three were chosen because this is where the gap between what companies say and what they do is often most consequential. The 2026 assessment extends beyond roasters to include five of the largest green cof- fee traders. Their proprietary sustainability programmes now underpin many of the industry’s responsible sourcing claims. The same framework is applied across all fifteen companies, enabling comparison while recognising that roasters and traders play very different roles in the value chain. Draft assessments were shared with each company for additional information and factual checks ahead of publication.
